Many
endurance athletes wonder whether supplementation is necessary.
Even those convinced have a hard time justifying paying 129 bucks
for a container of capsules - not with Costco selling a 30-day
multivitamin supply for $9.99. But we all know how important stress
management and recovery are - they are the keys to success in
endurance sports and in modern life.
The
Master Formula works and it makes a difference you can feel -
guaranteed. If you don't experience it, you can have your money
back. In contrast, an inexpensive commercial supplement with inferior
and less potent ingredients will not make a difference and can
even be detrimental to your health. Read

Seven
years ago, Mark Sisson, the designer of Master Formula, set out
to manufacture the absolute highest quality supplement in the
world, sparing no expense on ingredients, research or formulation.
The resulting Damage Control Master Formula (frequently updated
in response to the latest research) has enjoyed great popularity
with people of all ages and fitness levels, including some of
the world's top professional athletes.
Why
the Master Formula is different
Primal
Nutrition believes that almost every lifestyle concern or health
issue is best addressed with a comprehensive natural formula containing
not just one or two "fad ingredients", but one containing the
widest possible variety of well-researched ingredients shown to
provide benefits for that particular health concern.
With
the Master Formula, you'll no longer feel like you have to assemble
your own formula using bottle after bottle of single-nutrient
tablets or capsules. The Master Formula is a complete all-natural
formula - using scientific doses of key nutrients - and delivers
them to you at a substantial savings over what you would otherwise
pay.

Mark
Sisson, the founder of Primal Nutrition, is a noted researcher,
athlete, author and nutritional formulations designer. has spent
the past twenty years researching and writing about fitness, health,
and nutrition - as well as using that research to design state-of-the-art
performance and health-enhancing nutritional supplement products.
His
unique blend of skills, knowledge and experience in the fields
of fitness, nutrition and anti-aging are what make the Damage
Control Master Formula unequalled anywhere in the world.
As
a world-class athlete, Mark has personally experienced the highest
levels of human performance. His 2:18 marathon earned him a fifth
place finish at the 1980 USA National Marathon Championships;
he finished 4th in the 1982 Hawaii Ironman Triathlon; he was a
member of the indoor world-record 24-hour relay team (1977) and
he briefly held the world record for the vertical one-mile climb
on a Versa-Climber (1988).
After
receiving a degree in biology from Williams College in 1975, Mark
began what has become a lifelong investigation into the safest
and most effective ways to maximize human performance and increase
useful longevity. His extensive research and experience have resulted
in several books including: The Runners World Triathlon Training
Book, Training and Racing Biathlons, Maximum Results, The Fat
Control System and The Lean Lifestyle Program (over 500,000 copies
distributed).
He
has also written over 50 magazine articles on exercise and nutrition
for such notable publications as Men's Fitness, Triathlete, and
Runner's World, and he was the Editor of the Optimum Health national
newsletter (circ. 90,000) from 1994 through 1996. Mark has appeared
on ESPN, QVC, QVC UK, FIT TV, Shop at Home, and numerous radio
interview shows as a fitness and nutrition expert. Throughout
this time, he has also designed several proprietary formulas for
other major nutritional supplement companies.
His
extensive knowledge of the effects of supplementation on human
performance - what works, what doesn't, what's safe and what's
not - resulted in his being appointed in 1993 as Chairman of the
International Triathlon Union (ITU) Anti-Doping Commission and
liaison to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Medical Commission.
In this prestigious international position, Mark oversaw drug-testing
and anti-doping education of triathletes in 130 countries around
the world.
For
five years beginning in 1992, Mark served as Chief Operating Officer
and head of R&D for the country's largest television-direct seller
of nutritional supplements. He left that position in 1996 to form
Primal Nutrition, Inc.
Mark
is 48 years old; he and his wife Carrie have 2 children.
Ned
Overend - Ageless Endurance Legend
Ned
Overend - 47-years young and still crushing the competition Ned
Overend, one of the world's most extraordinary endurance athletes,
has been taking Damage Control Master Formula for three years
with great results. Every time Ned races, he makes history. No
one in the history of elite level multisport competition has demonstrated
the ability to defy the law of time as dramatically as Ned. Simply
put, Ned kicks ass on the young guys!
At
the age of 47, he is one of the world's top professional off-road
triathletes. Over the course of his 30-year career as an endurance
athlete, Ned has enjoyed honors such as two Xterra world mountain
bike triathlon championships, a UCI world mountain biking championship,
six national mountain biking titles, and top finishes in the whole
spectrum of endurance competition - the Hawaii Ironman, ultradistance
trail runs and road cycling stage races.
"People
think I'm ageless, but the truth is my experience compensates
for my age. I know how to train smarter and look after the little
details in my life that make a difference on race day. My diet,
my sleep, my rest and recovery patterns and my supplementation
are all superior to what they were 10 and 20 years ago.
"I
think I benefit in particular from the Damage Control Master Formula
because of my age. I believe that everybody over 40 ought to be
taking some form of high-potency supplementation. There's just
too much good evidence that these nutrients work and there's nothing
out there that can compare to the ingredients in the Master Formula.
Traveling, training and racing, balancing family and professional
obligations - these things wear you down even more as you get
older. I take the Master Formula every day and I swear by it."
Vitamin
Quality Warning
Are
You Wasting Money On Your Multivitamin? Many commercially
produced multivitamin formulas are ineffective. Haphazard ingredient
combinations, harsh production methods and artificial ingredients
dramatically reduce the potency and bio-availability of the nutrients.
The worst form of multivitamin to take is a tablet.
Commericially
produced tablets are created by crushing nutrients under 50,000
pounds of pressure. The pressure creates a sudden flash of heat
that destroys nutrient potency similar to what happens when you
overcook food. Tablets typically contain toxic residues of binders,
fillers, and glues that are used to stick ingredients together.
Even capsules suffer heat damage when nutrients are granulated
by friction grinding in preparation for encapsulation.
Other
problems with commercially produced vitamins include using cheaper
nutrient extracts, which are less bio-available than the preferred,
but more expensive forms (e.g. - magnesium aspartate is better
than the commonly used magnesium oxide). Just like there is junk
food, there is junk vitamins. Always choose a natural foods store
or market that carries products from manufacturers that have a
commitment to health and quality.
Warehouse clubs and pharmacies are the worst places to purchase
vitamin products. Look at ingredient labels carefully for artificial
ingredients and chemicals in the product. Many top brands have
a disclaimer on the label reading something like, 'free of corn,
yeast, wheat, soy or dairy products and formulated without the
use of preservatives, additives, lubricants, stabilizers, glues,
artificial ingredients, flavors or colors."
Study
Indicates Benefits for Endurance Athlete Multivitamin Supplementation
This
article, reprinted from the Journal of Endurance, suggests that
multivitamins supplementation is particularly helpful for endurance
athletes.
Since
the late 1940's, our soils have been depleted of 90% of their
micronutrient-rich influence in organic produce. The organic content
of vitamin and minerals either fed to livestock or harvested for
human consumption decreases with each annual crop. If the soils
deplete with each crop, our food chain fails to provide the micronutrients
required.
Multivitamin
supplements are often sold to consumers with the claim that supplements
modify risk factors associated with disease. Because few products
are validated scientifically, we examined the effects of a 24-ingredient
multivitamin formula in an open-label pilot investigation. Researchers
examined 150 subjects for specific endpoints including blood concentrations
of selected vitamins, homocysteine, lipids, and low-density lipoprotein
(LDL) oxidation indices at baseline and at 12 and 24 wk.
One
hundred forty-one subjects were successfully assayed for and showed
significant time effects for homocysteine and vitamin B6 (as pyridoxal-5'-phosphate),
B12, and folic acid concentrations during treatment. Vitamin B6,
B12, and folic acid concentrations were significantly elevated
at weeks 12 and 24.
Homocysteine
concentration decreased significantly during the same periods
(7.9 versus 6.7 versus 6.7 mM/mL. There were correlation's relating
homocysteine to vitamins B6, B12, and folic acid. Significant
time effects were noted for 121 subjects successfully assayed
for vitamin C, E, beta-carotene, LDL oxidation rate, and LDL lag
time.
Post
hoc assessment showed elevations in vitamin C, E, and beta-carotene
concentrations at 12 and 24 weeks. LDL oxidation lag time at baseline
from 57.5 minutes average increased by 12 wk to 635 minutes average
and 24 weeks 63.8 minutes on average. LDL oxidation rate averages
at baseline (9.7 microM x min(-1). g(-1)) was reduced at 12 weeks
(7.1 microM x min(-1) x g(-1) and 24 weeks (6.0 microM x min(-1)
x g(-1).
Only
vitamin C was significantly correlated with LDL oxidation rate.
A multi-ingredient vitamin formula with antioxidant properties
has measurable effects on homocysteine and LDL oxidation indices
[1].
COMMENT:
The inverse correlation between homocysteine and levels of vitamin
B6, B12, and folic acid are convincing. When it comes to maximally
effecting blood lipid health, taking a potent multiple is offsets
diet-induced and genetic malefactors, which may increase homocysteine,
vascular disease, and accelerated lipid oxidation.
Because
endurance athletes present a higher caloric exchange in terms
of intake versus exercise-induced expense, the multivitamin requirements
are greater to offset potential homocysteine levels presented
by diet or genetic factors. High macronutrients caloric expenditures
imply a proportionate increase in micronutrient supplementation.
